The Story
The Los Angeles Philharmonic asked the Groop to create a website honoring Esa-Pekka Salonen in his final year as the organization's Music Director. Their main priority was to commemorate the innovative and visionary style that Salonen brought to the orchestral world and to the Los Angeles cultural scene. Our challenge was to build a dynamic and experiential site that reflects Salonen's spirit and success, and brings together his colleagues, collaborators and fans.
The Results
We crafted an experience that expressed Salonen's character and story. With this in mind, we created Celebrate Salonen as an immersive website that highlights the achievements of Salonen's career through an interactive timeline.
Our design team created an unconventional timeline structure that illustrates Salonen's innovative spirit. Layered media within each point encourages users to engage and explore the site to learn more about his career and tenure with the Los Angeles Philharmonic.
Salonen's colleagues also shape the narrative of the site through first-hand recollections of their collaborations with Salonen. A tribute page allows fans to share their thoughts, memories and wishes for Esa-Pekka Salonen.
The collaborative feel of the site was designed with Salonen's music philosophy in mind - that it should be fluid, expressive, and most importantly, open to and enjoyed by all.
